My passion for photography has been nurtured over the last thirty years; ever since I received my first SLR I was hooked. Like many photographers, I’m self-taught. Initially, architecture, landscapes and street scenes were my preferred subjects. This gave me an appreciation for the importance of atmosphere, natural lighting and most important timing.
After my daughter was born, our family settled on Vancouver's northshore, possibly the best place on earth, and my interest began to focus on capturing her experiences in the world around her and then, team sports. Early on it was soccer then
basketball, but now field hockey (high-school and WVFHC) has her full attention. More recently, at the request of family friends, I have added high school rugby and football.
When friends and neighbours viewed my images, they realized that snapping pictures on their smart phone or a point & shoot camera just didn’t produce the same results as a DSLR equipped with a super-telephoto (200-500mm) lens. It wasn’t long before they began requesting that I capture images of their sons and daughters in competition, which I was happy to do. Photographing student athletes led to my decision to launch On the Ball Sport Photography (OBSP).

HOW OBSP WORKS
OBSP is a different concept from most sport photography services; I don’t attend sporting events and then market individual photographs after the final whistle. Parents book my services in advance as they would a special event photographer, but instead of a wedding or conference hall my work takes place alongside playing fields in North and West Vancouver.
This means that for the duration of the game my attention and the camera are focused on tracking the athlete’s every step, and results in exciting action shots you’ll treasure and want to share with family and friends.
So the next time your son or daughter is playing leave your phone in your pocket and enjoy the moment, and let me capture the action for you.
